Guide to Choosing the Right Tennis Racquet

Choosing the racquet that best suits your game can be a daunting task. With so many racquets on the market how is anyone supposed to know which racquet is best suited their style of play? This guide will help.

To make your selection as simply and pain free as possible, we have allocated each racquet into one of the three categories below. Each category is suited to a certain style of play and type of player. Once you know which category suits you, choosing a racquet becomes an easy and enjoyable process.

Category 1: Power or Game Improvement Racquets.

Racquets in this Category are generally high on power, have large sweetspots and are lightweight. They are best suited to players with short, compact swings who are looking for more power out of a racquet. Particularly popular amongst doubles players because of the extra power found on the serve and volleys.

In most cases these racquets feature oversize heads (107-135 square inches), are lightweight (230 – 280grams) and are balanced head-heavy.

Category 2: Control or Player Racquets.

Professional and high-level club players generally use racquets in this Category. These models are typically heavier in weight (295–350grams), have smaller heads (95-100 square inches), have thinner, more flexible beams and are balanced head light. The result is a low-power racquet, designed for players with long, full swings who provide their own power and prefer a racquet that offers more control.

Category 3: Tweener Racquets.

Most people fall into this range and it’s the category we sell most racquets from.

Suited to players with medium to full swings, Tweener racquets offer a combination of player Improvement and Control racquet features. These include: midplus head size (100-107 square inches), a medium weight (275-300grams) and an even balance. Tweener racquets offer a good combination of power and control and can be used by anyone from beginner through advanced players.
