How to Measure Your Grip Size

Getting the right grip size is extremely important to how the racquet plays. Thankfully getting the right grip size is a pretty easy process. Here are a few things to consider when choosing your grip size.

  • Adult racquets come in 3 grip sizes - 4 Ό, 4 3/8, 4 ½. 75% of racquets we sell are 4 3/8.
  • Junior racquets come in 2 sizes - 4 and 4 1/8
  • The correct size is the best size. The right grip size allows you to grip the racquet handle comfortably without over squeezing. Any extra pressure exerted holding the racquet can cause muscles to fatigue in the forearm, causing tennis elbow. So get the correct size.
  • The grip should feel comfortable in the hand!
  • When deciding your grip size, take into consideration if you are going to use an overgrip.
  • Finally, you can always make a grip bigger, but it’s extremely hard to make one smaller. So if in doubt go smaller.

So what’s the right grip size for you?

There are simple 2 ways to find out.

1. This is the easiest. Hold the handle of a racquet with an Eastern Forehand grip (the handshake grip). You should be able to fit a finger between the palm of your hand and your index finger. As shown below.

2. Measure your grip using a ruler. With your hand open and fingers extended close together, align the ruler with the bottom lateral crease of your palm and measure to the top of your ring finger. As shown below.
