Overview

With the Pure Drive VS, Babolat adds a new chapter to the one of the game's most iconic racquets. Like the standard Pure Drive, these racquets were invented for the explosive mechanics of the modern power game. What separates it from the standard Pure Drive is a slightly smaller head size along with a thinner, more flexible beam. The upshot is a racquet that not only gives you a more "connected feel" at impact, but one that launches the ball with greater predictability and precision. This model includes Babolat's FSI Power technology, which features diamond shaped grommet holes and wider string spacing (think spin). From the baseline, the Pure Drive VS is a crisp point and shoot weapon that offers mindless targeting on full swings. It swings faster than the standard Pure Drive, which means you'll find it easier to swing bigger when adding pace and spin to your shots. This stick is also great for scrambling on defense or executing winners on the run. At net and on service returns the Pure Drive VS moves into position with lightning speed. Although it isn't as stable as a traditionally weighted player's racquet, the combination of speed and precision make it pretty dangerous in the right hands.  On serves, the Pure Drive VS whips through contact with ease to deliver a nice combination of accuracy and pop. Ultimately, with its crisp and clean feel,  controllable power and excellent spin, the Pure Drive VS will definitely turn some heads.

Comments: Most fun I have had in years on a court! Fresh can of balls and RPM Blast at 54 lbs and I was hitting the cover off the ball and no pain or jarring. Clearly a stiff frame but none of the downsides you might expect. Ok so I won't be hitting drop shots or touch shots but who cares when you can just mash the ball! Super quick and easy to use from the go. Could add a bit of lead at some stage to the hoop but no real issues with the sweet spot. Got a bit fed up with clunky Pure Drives and the tinny feel in the past but this frame should be banned it is so sweet. With a smaller grip you can do all kinds of crazy wristy stuff and the frame holds up against big hitters so might be going down a grip size. I used to love the feel of a Radical Bumblebee and this really brings back that sensation of being able to hit wherever you want to for fun. Got to say this frame is just a joy to use!

Comments: A hidden gem among racquets I'd say, particularly given the Babolat line. Coming from lower power control frames such as the Ultra Tour, Prestige MP, Microgel Radical MP, this racquet provides more pop and connection without losing control, worth a demo

Comments: Nice racquet. I installed a Babolat gel grip and added a small bit of lead at 3, 9, and 12 o'clock to raise the sweetspot and slightly slow down the swing speed. Now it's right in my wheelhouse, all the benefits of a Pure Drive with better control and accuracy, and no arm issues. I would highly recommend this for the player who wants something in between a Pure Drive and a Strike that can also be customized to suit you preference

Comments: This racquet plays as good as it looks. Judging from the comments it appears people either love or hate this racquet. I love it. I noticed how powerful it was on my return of serve, groundstrokes, and serve. Most of my game is better. It almost feel like I'm cheating with it. I love that you can actually feel this racquet on impact as opposed to the standard Pure Drive which always felt like a club to me with no feel. Love that they made it 98 square inches; still has a good sweetspot. Another thing I noticed was that my balls were staying in when my instinct was that they would fly long. Again they really hit it out of the park with the paint job. Well done Babolat, I'm sold.

Comments: I have been a long time user of the 2009 Babolat Pure Storm GT racquets. I have been trying to find a modern day racquet to replace them. Over the course of several weeks, I demoed the Pure Strike 3rd Generation, Pure Drive, Head Graphene 360+ Speed Pro and MP, and Pure Drive VS. I narrowed down the choice to the Pure Strike or Pure Drive VS. In the end, I had the most success and confidence with the Pure Drive VS. I loved the control and available power the racquet provided. The racquet's weight and balance is very similar to my older Pure Storm GT racquets which made the transition very easy. Since purchasing the Pure Drive VS, I have hit more short angled winners than ever before. Exceptional control. I would highly recommend you demo this racquet if you are considering any of the racquets I mentioned above. In addition, the paint job is awesome! Strung it up with Solinco Confidential 17 gauge at 52 pounds.

Comments: This is one of the best racquets on the market, if not the best. I have owned and strung all the latest such as the Pro Staff RF97 Autograph, Head Gravity Pro, Head Prestige Pro. Jeremy writes the best most accurate review on here in my opinion. It feels elegant and easy to use unlike the club-like Pure Drive and Aero Pro. Extremely accurate, plenty of power. One of the few that does everything well. The quality of build is fabulous, you won't need any overgrips ever and it won't hurt the palm of your hand like the Pro Staff RF97 Autograph. This racquet is also wonderful to string. The only downside is that it is quite stiff, so string as Jeremy suggests and add powerpads and a dampener.

Comments: Restarting tennis (for the fourth time). Upgraded with this from a combination of Roddick Pure Drives and regular Pure Drives. Initial results have been positive. Stiff, but less stiff than the Pure Drives. Has plenty of pop, but slightly more control than the Pure Drives. I find the Tennis Warehouse review in line with my experience so far. Strung at 54 lbs with hybrid strings. So far it's been a great upgrade. Mainly playing doubles at the 4.0-4.5 level.

Comments: Great racquet even in its stock form. I strung it low at 50 pounds with Solinco Hyper-G and I loved it. The spin and power combination is really great and perfectly adds to my game. I am a 4.5 aggressive serve and volley player.

Comments: Amazing racquet with added weight. I first tried this demo and loved the way it felt in some areas but it was too whippy and unstable. Put some weight on the head 3 and 9 o'clock and it came to life. Love that Babolat made this frame.

Comments: This racquet was an impulse buy for me. I didn't demo it. I normally play with a Pure Strike 16x19 and have had several other Babolat racquets Pure Aero, Pure Storm, Pure Drive, and the Pure Control. I have to say that I really wanted to like this racquet, but I don't. It hits a beautiful ball once in a while, but the sweetspot is too small for me to be consistent, the racquet is too light and the frame feels stiff. I restrung the racquet because the first set of strings felt too stiff. That didn't work either. This is a beautifully made racquet, but it is not for me.

Comments: I have bought this racquet and it is far better than a standard Pure Drive if you can hit a clean ball. I have predominantly used Head Prestige and RF97, and this racquet is sitting just in between. I highly recommend this to advanced players.
From: Mikey, 28/6/19

Comments: In my opinion, this racquet is awful compared to the standard Pure Drive. There is no give and the ball shoots off with complete unpredictability. I am a 6.0-6.5 level player.
From: Mike, 29/5/19

Comments: The racquet is very stiff and there is a bit of a shock. The sweetspot is small, and there is not much power.
From: Jun, 29/5/19

Comments: This racquet is built with high quality. It plays softer than its rating and for me it does the most important jobs really well such as serving, return of serve, and groundstrokes. It is fairly well balanced so it should be easy to switch to from most racquet specs. I read that people complain about the weight. I come from the RF 97 and if you give it time, it will grow on you. It is a superb racquet.

Comments: 4.0-4.5 baseline player have played Pure Drive since the last version of the Roddick. Have demoed all versions of Pure Strike and all versions of the Aero line plus player version Head and Wilson products. I believe this racquet is well worth a demo but, I demoed this racquet expecting a few things. #1 It seems to sing as a baseline racquet with a slightly smaller sweetspot than the Pure Drive, this should be expected. #2 Expect a flatter ball, but not as flat as an 18x20 100 or 16/20 98. Ball is consistent off the strings, but gives less margin than the Pure Drive. #3 Yes it's a fast racquet, good on full swings with ball hit with conviction. Good on slice, defensive play expect a benefit to be able to react quickly, but also expect to provide the force on the racquet as there is less free power than the Pure Drive. #4 Serves will have plenty of movement and also deliver on flat serves. Available racquet head speed provides both of these. Now, I found 16 gauge RPM Blast to be too harsh. The racquet may need a 17 or even 18 gauge full bed of poly to soften even further than the RA provides strung at 47-52 lbs. 16 gauge gut cross and a 17 main I believe will open the sweetspot with 48-50 lbs on poly and 52 lbs ish on the gut.

Comments: I'm a 4.5 baseline player that plays with the Babolat Pure Strike 98 (16 x 19) (Project One). I have tried demoing several previous Babolat Pure Drives, but they have always been too stiff for my liking. Thus, I was very excited with this newer offering that is slightly less stiff and the specs seem very close to my current Pure Strike frame. Overall, I think the frame definitely feels less stiff than previous Pure Drives, so the lower RA Stiffness rating was definitely noticeable to me. The frame swung very easily and fast (almost too fast). The frame felt like it could use a little more mass in the head, but the spin production and ball pocketing was excellent in my opinion. The racquet felt like the power was comparable to my Pure Strike frame, maybe slightly less. Compared to the Pure Drive Tour and Pure Drive 100 square inch models, the racquet is going to provide more control and comfort but less free power (but I would still classify this as a power frame). For anyone playing with the Babolat Pure Drive Team, but wish it was a little heavier and less stiff, this might be an excellent option to try out. Anyone playing with the Pure Drive 100 models and wish they were slightly less stiff and more control, you should definitely check out this frame. For me, the frame is similar to my Pure Strike, but it's also different enough that if you're a Pure Strike user and not completely happy with the Pure Strike frame, then it might be worth a demo.

Comments: Haven't had a chance to hit with them yet, but major kudos to Babolat for taking on quality control and promising two racquets that are so closely matched, I wish every manufacture would do the same. I can't wait to give it a shot just because of the matching! Go Babolat.
From: Don, 1/2/19

Comments: 'm a 5.0 player strung these with Black Widow. Was very excited to try these and honestly was very disappointed. The racquets are very head light and need a ton of weight for a solid ball. The racquet is also very very whippy. Consistency requires one to really change their stroke style. Volleys are more difficult because of how whippy the frame is.
