Overview

Introducing the Pro Staff 97UL v13! As the lightest member of the Pro Staff family, this racquet enables dedicated beginners and early intermediates to tap into the amazing precision and feel of the Pro Staff universe. This racquet features similar cosmetic stylings to Federer's RF97 Autograph, complete with the same subtle elegance, velvety paint and chrome touches. At only 10 ounces strung, the 97UL moves through contact with remarkable ease. It also has great control thanks to its 97in² head. Taken together, these features make this a great tool for the rising player who wants to start attacking the ball and selecting more ambitious targets. This racquet's graphite layup benefits from Braid 45, which features strategically woven fibers to enhance feel, pocketing and stability. The Pro Staff 97UL v13 also gets updated with Wilson's String Mapping, which creates denser spacing in the hitting area for a more predictable and controlled response. From the baseline, this stick combines easy acceleration with impressive control on full swings. Spin comes easy thanks to the open 16x19 string pattern. The speedy feel comes in handy when chasing down balls and hitting shots on the run. The quick handling is also an asset at net where improving players will appreciate how easily this racquet comes around. All in all, the Pro Staff 97UL v13 is simply a great option for the player who wants a light and speedy performance racquet with a small learning curve. The great feel at impact is a nice bonus.

Comments: Addendum: super maneuverable , excellent topspin. Very low powered, most precise stick ever, and this includes Head Prestige Mid Flexpoint.

Comments: Needed a second stick, so I got this one for its low swing-weight and maneuverability. I put 5 grams of lead 4 cm from the butt-cap, and installed a fairway leather grip. Balance 32 cm, and plays perfect now.

Comments: A little background first. Been playing since the early 1980's. Played with Pro Staffs until 2000. More of the classic swing, a soft low to high driving stroke. Changed my swing to the modern windshield wiper high topspin type with great success with lighter frames, Head tiRadical, in 2012 Pro Staff Six.One 100, a lighter frame, then a year later to Babolat AeroPro Drive. Then to the lightweight version as getting older was hard to generate heavy topspin. I went to the Burn Team in 2017. Could whip it around, soft feel. Works great. Saw this new version and thought I would go back to my first love. For a lighter frame, it doesn't feel that light. The thicker beam feels quite stiff. So here is the verdict. I serve great with it. Absolutely great. Groundstrokes struggled with the windshield wiper stroke. A few mishits, smaller head size? With the smaller head and tight string pattern I just could not generate enough topspin. Much too much work to control distance. It felt like this frame was begging for a classic flat slightly low to high stroke. Wow, what a difference, night and day. From the baseline and deeper I was nailing flat strokes like point and shoot. What fun, like the 1980's all over again. However on short balls a few feet inside the baseline, I was lost! Could not generate any topspin to make a shot stay in. Was forced to slice short balls. The stiffness of the frame made the lack of feel on these shots sometimes hard to pull off. So, for me, great for serves, great for deep flat groundstrokes if I was at the baseline or deeper, poor feel on softer touch shots and how to handle short balls at mid court.
